Let’s make your group program feel *less* like a group
Let’s talk about group programs (aka masterminds, containers or cohorts).
They are the sweet spot to serving more clients at once, sustainably and impactfully. And they are at a relatively more obtainable price point than 1:1 work from the client’s perspective.
And if you have ever been a part of a group program you also know how much value there is in simply being in the room with others in a similar situation as yours and learning from their experience.
Depending on the programs you’ve been a part of, you may have loved it or hated it. Unfortunately, it’s easy to get lost in the mix of a program that’s too big or not made up of the right group of members.
But on the flip side, when the program is thoughtful (everything down to who the members are, how they each learn best and see value), when the experience takes YOU, the individual, into account, it can be one of the best experiences and incredibly successful!
As a business owner who has (or would like to have) a group program… creating that individual experience takes thoughtfulness and intention.
So here’s what I’ve seen working lately when it comes to making a truly exceptional individual experience in a group program, inside my client’s businesses:
Make space to actually know them.
If there wasn't a discovery call, that relationship starts at zero. A quick 30-minute 1:1 before the program kicks off, or even a personal voice note just to say I see you, I'm glad you're here, changes the entire tone of what follows. People can tell the difference between just being enrolled and actually being welcomed.
Surprise them with something they didn't expect.
A bonus workshop. An extra live session. A resource you noticed the group actually needed halfway through. It doesn't have to be elaborate. It just has to feel like you were paying attention - because you were.
Celebrate individual wins inside a group space.
A shoutout in your community. A voice note when someone hits a breakthrough. A small moment that says Hey, I noticed you specifically. Group programs can quietly become anonymous if no one is tending to the individual thread. These moments keep it personal.
The through line in all three? Intentionality. None of this happens by accident. It happens because someone (you, or Hi 👋, me!) built it into the group experience from the start.
That's the work I love most.
