Just Because You Can Doesn’t Mean You Should
A Lesson in Letting Go
I had to laugh at myself the other day.
I found myself doing something I always encourage my clients and any business owner I speak with to do… but rarely take the advice myself.
I needed to set up a new invoicing system. Nothing crazy. Nothing I hadn’t done a dozen times before for my clients. In fact, it’s the kind of thing that falls squarely in my wheelhouse as an Online Business Manager.
But here’s the truth:
My client load was full.
My personal life was full.
And the thought of squeezing one more task into my calendar? It was going to tip me straight into overwhelm.
So I outsourced it.
And let me tell you, it was so worth it.
And yes, I had to remind myself a bunch… We don’t get extra credit for doing everything alone.
But we do get more time, more peace, and more momentum when we delegate with discernment.
Just because you can figure something out (and even do it well) doesn’t mean it makes the most sense for you to be the one doing it.
And that, right there, is the mindset shift so many of us need to hear, especially those of us who can wear all the hats… but no longer want to.
Here’s what I’ve learned and seen time and again with my clients:
Sometimes it’s smarter to bring in an expert who can knock out a task in a quarter of the time.
Sometimes your energy is better spent leading your vision than building the backend.
And sometimes, the best thing you can do for your growth is to stop white-knuckling every setup or system because you could figure it out if you had time.
Whether it’s a custom backend project, a small systems upgrade, or a short-term container of support while you scale, getting expert help doesn’t have to be a massive commitment.
In fact, most of the time, it’s the exact kind of help you’ll look back on and say,
"Why didn’t I do this six months ago?"
So if you're sitting on a project you know needs to get done but you just haven’t had the capacity to do it yourself, please know: you are not alone. That moment of hesitation is normal.
But it might also be your sign that it’s time to hand it off.
If you're not sure what kind of support would make the biggest impact right now, I’m here to help.
I’d be happy to help you brainstorm your next step.
